For a full turnkey service including manufacture, supply & installation
Here's a look at the various stages involve with installing an electric sliding gate. From digging out the trench for the sliding support mechanism to running the power cables underneath the existing block paving driveway to install a remote access 6 metre wide automated sliding gate.
Composite electric gates offer both functionality and aesthetic appeal to a properties. Automatic composite driveway gates are a perfect choice where budgets allow for domestic properties. Even if your budget won't allow for automation yet, we can fabricated your gates to allow for automation to be added at a point in the future. Only a few subtle changes to you gates will be required but it will be much easier and cost effective to have this done at the point of fabrication. Simply let us know of these are your plans.
Depending on your preferences, and sometimes due to the incline of your driveway, you will have either a swing or sliding gate but both options can be automated. The sliding option can be applied to a single gate or both gates opening from the middle outwards. Once you have decided on your opening mechanism then the other options to decide on is your opening system.
Electric gates offer a variety of control options that enhance accessibility, security, and convenience.
Remote Control: Remote control is one of the most popular and convenient options for operating electric gates. It allows users to open and close the gates with the press of a button from a distance. Remote control systems typically come with a handheld transmitter, which can be attached to a keychain for easy access. Some remote controls even offer multiple channels, allowing users to control multiple gates or devices with a single remote.
Keypad Entry: Keypad entry systems are another common control option for electric gates. These systems require users to enter a code on a keypad mounted near the gate to open it. Keypad entry offers added security as only authorised persons with the correct code can access the property but if you have a large family or numerous authorise people requiring regular access to your property this is a practical option. With keypad systems It is always worth thinking about selecting one with programmable codes, enabling you to change the code periodically for added security.
Intercom System: An intercom system allows users to communicate with visitors at the gate before granting access. When a visitor arrives, they can press a button on the intercom to speak to the homeowner or property owner. The homeowner can then remotely open the gates using a control panel or a mobile app. Intercom systems are ideal for controlling access to gated communities, residential complexes, or commercial properties. For domestic use it is probably worth combining this option with another entry option for regular users and if there is no-one at the other end of the intercom unless you combine this with:
Mobile App Control: With advancements in technology, many electric gate systems now offer mobile app control. This allows users to open and close their gates using a smartphone or tablet from anywhere in the world. Mobile app control is convenient for homeowners who want to grant access remotely to guests, service providers, or delivery personnel. Some mobile apps also offer features such as real-time gate status notifications such as motion detection and access logs for added security.
Timer Control: Timer control systems allow users to program specific times for the gates to open and close automatically. This is useful for homeowners who have regular schedules and want their gates to open and close at specific times of the day. Timer control is generally a handy option for businesses that operate on fixed hours and want their gates to open and close automatically without manual intervention.
Vehicle Detection System: A vehicle detection system uses sensors to detect vehicles approaching the gates and automatically opens them. This is a convenient option for homeowners who want seamless entry and exit without the need for manual control. However, it is more common for commercial businesses to allow selected vehicles to gain access easily. However, a vehicle detection system will be required to identify specific vehicles, such as number plate recognition so that specific cars or delivery trucks can enter, while remaining closed for unauthorised vehicles.
Composite electric gates provide an elegant and durable solution for home security and aesthetics. Whilst composite material themselves need little looking after the automation of your gates represents a significant investment, so it is important to look after them to ensure their longevity and optimal performance.
Just like any part of your home, your composite electric gates will benefit from regular cleaning to maintain their appearance and functionality. Use a gentle detergent mixed with water and a soft cloth or sponge to wipe down the surface. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can scratch and damage the composite. Make cleaning part of your seasonal home maintenance routine, ensuring that your gates remain pristine year-round.
Regular inspections will help you identify any potential problems before they escalate. Check the hinges, locks, and electrical components of the gate for signs of wear or malfunction. By staying proactive with inspections, you can prolong the life of your gates and avoid costly repairs down the line.
The mechanisms that operate your electric gates require regular lubrication to function smoothly. Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the hinges and any moving parts to prevent rust and ensure optimal operation. Doing this periodically (at least once or twice a year) will keep the gate opening and closing effortlessly.
Make sure that the electrical components of your gates are functioning correctly. Check the power supply, remote controls, and sensors (these are critical safety components) that are part of the gate’s operation. If you notice any glitches, contact the electrical technician to have the issue addressed promptly. Keeping the electronic components in check will enhance safety and efficiency. It is worthwhile considering regular servicing - this is often conditional for the warranty requirements of the motor mechanism. Professionals will conduct a thorough inspection, identify potential issues, and perform repairs that may be outside the scope of routine upkeep. Ideally an annual maintenance service will ensure your gates are always in top condition.
The area around your composite electric gates should be kept clear of overhanging branches, shrubs, or any debris that could impede the operation of the gate an potentially de-rail an electric sliding gate. Regularly trim any nearby foliage and remove leaves or other obstacles from the gate's path.
By following these steps, you can enhance the durability and functionality of your composite electric gates while ensuring they remain an attractive aspect of your property. Regular care, attention to detail, and professional maintenance will keep your gates operating smoothly, offering both security and kerb appeal for many years to come. With a little effort and foresight, your composite electric gates can remain a prime feature of your home for decades.

No. Our fabricators can amke metal only or metal frames wooden elecrtric gates too, although the most popular by far is composite.
Theoretically, an electric gate could be made to almost any size. However, there are more practical considerations regarding the size for weight, handling, transportation and fitting.
If you know your rough dimentions and can send in some photos your local fabricator may be able to make a decision form these or advise what may, or may not, be possible based on other factors around the planned location of your automated gate or gates.
This will depend on what your material choice is. If you opt for composite electric gates the two main areas that can have colour varients - will be the frame and the composite panels.
Whilst black is by far the most popular paint colour for the frame, virtually all RAL colours are available, which can be seen on our 'gate options page'. For a metal only automated gate this means you can have them in almost any colour!
Where the ground allows a single sliding composite gate is marginally more popular that cantilever double metal electric gates.
Installing electric gates offers numerous benefits, including enhanced security, convenience, and aesthetic appeal. These gates are equipped with advanced locking mechanisms, making it difficult for unauthorised individuals to gain access to your property, thereby deterring potential intruders. Electric gates operate using a system of motors, gears, and sensors that enable them to open and close automatically, often triggered by remote controls, keypads, or sensors detecting an approaching vehicle or person. The motor powers the movement of the gate via either a sliding or swinging mechanism.
Electric gates are typically powered by electricity from the mains supply, so the accessability to this can impact costs. Running concealed power cabling to the gate can mouint up if uplifting and relaying sections of a driveway are involveed.
Most systems provide the option to include backup batteries to ensure functionality during power outages without having to take the manual option.
Maintenance for electric gates in the UK is essential to ensure safe and reliable operation. Regular checks should be conducted to assess the mechanical components, including hinges and motors, for any wear and tear. It's crucial to ensure that the gate's sensors are clean and functioning properly to prevent malfunctions. The gate's power supply should also be inspected periodically to avoid any electrical issues. Additionally, it's recommended to lubricate moving parts and check the alignment of the gate to prevent sticking or jamming. Annual servicing by a qualified technician can help identify potential issues before they escalate, ensuring the gate operates smoothly and extends its lifespan.
