For a full turnkey service including supply & installation
Metal driveway gates serve both functional and aesthetic purposes in residential and commercial properties. They offer an important first line of defence when it comes to securing your property while also enhancing its visual appeal. Whether you are looking for increased security, privacy, or simply a striking entrance, metal driveway gates can provide the perfect solution. The level of a number of these factors will come down to the design you choose. Most people will choose a metal only driveway gate over metal and composite or metal and wood for a less private entrance.
Composite boards or wooden panels provide no see through properties, unless wide gapes a left between each panels or boards. Most people will choose composite gates for the additional privacy they provide. However, not everyone needs or wants increased levels of privacy so a simply or ornate metal driveway gates provide option, even over a timber only set of driveway gates.
As our fabricators make bespoke gates to your specifications so you can have a wide variety of customisation such as detailing and designs within the gate multiple colours for different aspects of your gate. House names or numbers can also be included within the gate. Your biggest challenge will be making a decision. Fortunately our fabricators are here to help as they can guide you on the pros and cons of some of your decision choices and help you work to a particular budget.
Metal gates continue to be popular as they provide a different character to the entrance of a property which is generally more open and transparent to allow the garden behind the gate to be seen. That refers to all metal gates utilising thin vertical bars. Using thicker metal horizontal bars can provide a more private option compared with a metal gate utilising composites or wood as a solid infill. Since we offer a bespoke fabrication and supply and fit services we can cater for a wide variety of styles and budgets.
For a more traditional metal garden gate the typical space between the vertical bars is usually less than 100mm. This spacing ensures safety and complies with building regulations, which state that: a sphere of 100mm in diameter must not be able to pass through any gap. It is however worth checking and notifying your fabricator if you definitely want or need smaller gaps. Most metal garden gates as standard will have a gap near to 100mm as this will mean less bars are used and costs are kept down. However, over the years our fabricators have made a number of gates for pet owners and especially those with small dogs have realised that their pooch could quite easily get through a gap of just under the regulation gap so specified a much smaller gap. There are still options to keep cost down as the smaller bar spacings don't have to run from top to bottom of your gate. You can have smaller gaps, ideally half the width of the upper bars and make this a great design feature of your gate.
We provide all sizes of garden metal gates with the most popular sizes being about 6 foot in height for side entrance gates and 3-4 foot for a small front garden entrance gate. If you are happy with our provisional quote your local fabricators will come to take exact measurements to ensure they know what fixing points are needed to ensure a perfect and sturdy fit.
Whilst most metal garden gates are finished with black powder coated paint if you have different requirements simply let us know. Likewise the top of a metal gate can be finished off more decoratively. There are a number of finial options that can be added to the top of a gate or even in between the bars. These decorative pieces can also be be finished in a different colour. You have most likely spear or fleur de lis gate tops in gold or silver. The most common ornamental topping is a fleur de lis but there many other options such as ball top bars or specific prefabricated gate tops.
As our fabricators make every metal gate to order clearly the size of the gate is key and this will be made to fit perfectly whether this is to accommodate fixing to a suitable solid structure such as a brick wall or whether a suitable new post is required - the width will take into account the fixing method. Whilst you may also have an idea about the height of the gate you want, it's fixing off the ground may also be a factor.
The beauty about Composite Gate UK measure, manufacture and install service is that the installer has checked the suitability of fixing AND if the ground by the gate is flat or sloped. If the gate is placed on sloping ground there is a danger than the gate won't fully open and catch on the floor. For a single pedestrian garden gate this can easily be overcome by changing the opening direction of the gate - subject to the angle and direction of the slope or if the gate neds to opening a certain direction, then the height from the floor and the hinging may need alterations to accommodate this.
Generally this won't be much of an issue for single gates but from double or driveways gates which are much longer this is a factor that needs to be taking into consideration. If you are replacing existing gates then you will already have an appreciation of how they have been fitted, but if these are brand new gates. This could be an issue which could be overcome by a single, or double sliding gate.
This side of things relates to the more practical aspects of fabricating made to measure driveway gates but for the decorative aspects we have provided more detail below.
There are numerous ways to personalise metal gates including combining metal and wrought iron components. There are different ways of including design features within metal gates. The best metal for a driveway gate largely depends on factors like durability, maintenance, and aesthetics.
Whilst metal is a collective term that an include steel , wrought iron and aluminium typically when people refer to metal gates this will mean steel. Wrought iron and aluminium gates will gnerally be named as such.
Treated steel such a zinc primed, will generally provide you with the best balance of durability and strength with costs also being a favourable factor too.
Steel is renowned for its strength providing a high level of security while allowing for intricate designs that can enhance aesthetics. Wrught iron whilst more traditional will generally be more expensite - visually a steel gate will be fairly indistinguishable from a wrought iron gate.
Whilst aluminum is lighter and naturally resistant to corrosion, it is much more prone to damage. Properly primed steel will generally be your best all-rounder for metal gates.
